Kathmandu, Dec 14 (RSS): The second phase of voting for the post of Nepali Congress President under the 14th General Convention has come to an end.
The voting that began at 3:30 pm concluded at 9:00 pm, some 1.5 hours late than earlier scheduled, according to the party’s Central Election Committee.
A total of 4,564 delegates from among the total 4,743 delegates cast their votes today. The counting of the votes will begin soon. The results are expected to come out quicker in compared to yesterday, as there are only two candidates vying for the post, the Committee has said.
Prime Minister and incumbent party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Dr Shekhar Koirala are vying for post in the second round of elections after none of the candidates got more than 50 per cent votes in Monday’s election.
In the vote that took place yesterday, Prime Minister and incumbent NC president Deuba received 2,258 votes and his nearest rival Dr Koirala got 1,702 votes. Former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh got 371 votes, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi got 250 votes and Central Member Kalyan Gurung got 22 votes.
