Chitwan, Nov 15 (RSS) – CP Mainali has been reelected to the post of general-secretary of the CPN (ML) yet again.
The closed session of the 8th general convention of the party elected a 59-member central committee including Mainali to the post.
The general convention that commenced on November 13 amended the party statute and increased the central committee members to 81.
The central committee meeting to be convened in January next year will delegate responsibilities to other officer-bearers, shared central member Dinanath Ghimire.
The general convention assessed that the British-style parliamentary system failed in Nepal and such a system should be scrapped.
The Prime Minister should be directly elected with executive powers and provide for a constitutional Head of State, the party upheld the new ideals.
Similarly, prime minister be elected directly and the council of ministers should not exceed 15 members, the party statute demanded. “The parliamentarian should not be ordained minister,” added Ghimire.
Furthermore, parliamentary election should be fully proportional and provinces be scrapped implementing Nepali model of federalism, the party statute upholds.
Newly reelected general-secretary Mainali said that CPN (ML) will be made people’s party and works will be undertaken to meet the aspirations of the public and country.
