Minister Khand takes cognizance of disaster risk management efforts



Kathmandu, Jan 23 (RSS) : Minister for Home Affairs Balkrishna Khand visited the National Emergency Operation Centre and took stock of the works relating to disaster risk management, preparedness and post-disaster rescue operation among others.

Minister Khand visited the Centre to take cognizance of the preparedness for reducing the risk of cold wave and snowfall among others that were on rise in the country of late. The Centre formulates action plans so as to reduce the risk of disasters and scale of damages from the natural disasters.

Pradeep Koirala, Chief of Disaster and Conflict Management Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs briefed Minister Khand about the early preparatory efforts the Ministry and the Centre were undertaking for the disaster risk management.

For the immediate relief distribution to the disaster survivors in various districts such as Sankhuwasabha, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Ramechap and Rasuwa among others, the government had decided to send Rs 400,000 to each district, according to the Minister. 

Likewise, Saptari, Siraha, Bara and Rupandehi each among others were sent Rs 1.2 million each while Rs 800,000 each was sent to Banke, Bardia, Kanchanpur among others, the Minister said.

Minister Khand also inquired about how the Centre receives information on disasters occurring all over the country and how it manages to send the relief materials immediately. The Centre receives information on weather forecast directly from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and other information related to disasters through district administration offices.
